Understanding contact labels

Each person in People can show small labels — badges that tell you at a glance how they relate to your business. Three are set for you automatically; two you add by hand.

Automatic labels: Customer, Prospect, Subscriber

You never set these directly — they follow what's true about the person and update themselves as things change:

  • Customer — has a won opportunity.
  • Prospect — has an open opportunity (status New or Talking).
  • Subscriber — their primary email is on your mailing list.

How to make someone a Customer or Prospect

Both come from opportunities: on the person's page, log one and mark it Won to make them a Customer, or leave it open (New/Talking) to make them a Prospect. Winning an open opportunity moves them from Prospect to Customer automatically.

How to make someone a Subscriber

The Subscriber badge appears when the person's primary email matches someone on your mailing list. Add them to a list under Audiences (or they subscribe themselves through one of your forms), and the badge shows up on its own — there's nothing to toggle here.

Labels you add yourself (Wholesale, Supplier)

Wholesale and Supplier aren't automatic. On the person's page, find the Labels card, tick the ones that apply, and Save labels. Use them to flag the relationships that don't fit the automatic set.
